St. Vital
Established south-Winnipeg living by the Red River
St. Vital is one of Winnipeg's largest and most established residential areas, sitting in the city's south end between the Red River to the west and the Seine River to the east. It has deep roots, growing from early-1800s Red River Settlement river lots into a full city before amalgamating with Winnipeg in 1972, and today it blends mature tree-lined streets with shopping, parks, and easy access to the rest of the city. It is a well-rounded, family-oriented part of town rather than a flashy one, valued for its mix of amenities, green space, and a wide range of home choices.
Highlights
- St. Vital Park, a roughly 46-hectare riverside park with a pavilion, a duck pond, walking and cycling paths, athletic fields, and winter toboggan slides and ski trails
- St. Vital Centre, one of Winnipeg's largest shopping malls, with around 170 stores and services, a SilverCity cinema, dining, and a Walmart Supercentre
- Riel House National Historic Site and the local St. Vital Museum, reflecting the area's Métis and francophone heritage
- A mature, lived-in residential feel with established trees, plus Maple Grove Park and other green space along the rivers
