St. Adolphe

St. Adolphe is a community on the east bank of the Red River within the Rural Municipality of Ritchot, roughly 12 km south of Winnipeg. It is not its own town or city; it is an unincorporated community inside the RM, which has its main municipal office here at 352 Main Street. Statistics Canada reports two figures depending on how the place is drawn: the St. Adolphe designated place had a population of 1,006 in the 2021 Census (down 4.8% from 1,057 in 2016), while the broader St. Adolphe population centre recorded 1,595 (up from 1,367 in 2016). The community traces its origins to a Métis settlement on the Red River before 1812, originally called Pointe-Coupée, and a francophone identity remains part of its character, with a meaningful share of residents reporting French as a first language.

The town reads as a compact, walkable core wrapped by a ring dike — the earthen ring built and later raised above 1997 flood levels to protect the community in the flood-prone Red River Valley. Inside it you'll find a school, churches, a credit union, a pharmacy, a gas station and restaurants, plus an arena, curling rink and riverside green space. It suits buyers who want a genuine community with services and recreation, a short drive to the city, and the trade-offs that come with valley living: a place where most households still drive everywhere and where flood awareness is simply part of life. The well-known A Maze in Corn attraction sits about 2 km north of the community.

The RM notes recent residential growth that includes condos, townhouses and single-detached homes alongside available custom-build lots, giving the community more multifamily and entry options than many rural communities its size. Getting around

Car-dependent like most communities outside Winnipeg. The main route is the Pierre Delorme Bridge and PR 210 west to Highway 75, the principal corridor into south Winnipeg; the community sits about 12 km south of the city and roughly 10 minutes from the south Perimeter (Highway 100), making it one of the closer commuter options on the south side. There is no urban transit, so plan on driving for work, school runs and shopping.
