Niverville

A fast-growing commuter town on Winnipeg’s southeast edge.

Back to the map

Niverville is a small town in Manitoba’s Red River Valley, roughly 40 km south of Winnipeg, that has expanded quickly over the past two decades. The 2021 census recorded a population of 5,947, a 29% jump from 2016 that made it the fastest-growing municipality in the province at that time. It has Mennonite and British settlement roots dating to its founding in 1874, and today it functions largely as a bedroom community for people who work in Winnipeg and the wider Capital Region. Despite the growth it remains physically compact.

The vibe is family-oriented and suburban-meets-small-town: new subdivisions and recently built schools and recreation facilities sit alongside an older Main Street core. The population skews toward families and young households, and the town has invested heavily in community infrastructure as it has grown. People who choose Niverville generally want newer housing, a quieter pace, and a short drive to the city rather than urban amenities on their doorstep.

Highlights

  • The Community Resource & Recreation Centre (opened 2021): an arena, multi-use fieldhouse, indoor track, indoor playground, performing-arts space and childcare under one roof, plus the older Centennial Arena.
  • Hespeler Park, a large community park with ball diamonds, soccer pitches, a paved walking path, splash park, beach volleyball and a bike pump track, plus a nearby off-leash dog park.
  • The Niverville Heritage Centre, a seniors’ campus combining assisted living and personal-care residences with a health clinic, event facilities and a restaurant.
  • Three Hanover School Division schools: Niverville Elementary (K–4), Niverville Middle (5–8) and Niverville High (9–12), several recently built.
  • Community life centred on events like the long-running Niverville Olde Tyme Country Fair each June, and the Niverville Nighthawks of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
