Charleswood

Leafy southwest living, where the city feels like the country

All neighbourhoods

Charleswood is an established residential community in Winnipeg's southwest, long known by its welcome-sign slogan "The Suburb Beautiful" and rooted in the market gardens and farms that shaped it before it joined the City of Winnipeg in 1972. It's prized for mature trees, generous lots, and a relaxed, almost rural feel right inside city limits, with the Assiniboine River along its northern edge and Assiniboine Forest at its doorstep. Day to day it's quiet and green, with shopping and services concentrated along Roblin Boulevard and Grant Avenue rather than big-box corridors.

Highlights

  • Backs onto Assiniboine Forest, one of Canada's largest urban forests (~700 acres of aspen, oak, meadow and wetland), with the 6.5 km Harte Trail (part of the Trans Canada Trail)
  • Close to Assiniboine Park (zoo, conservatory, gardens) and FortWhyte Alive, plus the 20-acre Charleswood Off-Leash Dog Park
  • Mature, leafy streets with large lots and a country-like character - in places you'll still find open ditches and stretches of wooden sidewalk
  • Local shopping, dining and services along Roblin Boulevard and Grant Avenue, with a 'mom and pop' small-business feel; active community centres, curling and hockey clubs
